It’s no secret that House and Senate Democrats have been executing one game plan, since the President took office a year ago: Obstructionism.
They have come out strong against virtually every policy that Trump and the Republicans have proposed, and they’ve done so without apology. Frequently casting votes against policies designed to help American citizens, they have made their mark on the history of this nation as individuals who continually opposed the effort to truly make the country great again.
True to their form, the Democrats, led by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), have done it again. In the words of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Democrats are “holding lawful (American) citizens hostage” as part of their insane obstructionist tactic.
Friday night, at midnight, the clock ran out on the Congressional effort to agree upon a spending bill or an extension to keep the government funded. The issue stems from the continued negotiations between the GOP and Democrats on a comprehensive immigration bill, in which both sides are giving concessions to the other. In exchange for protection from deportation for DACA recipients, Trump and the GOP wanted border wall funding, increased border patrol funding, and the elimination of chain-migration and the ridiculous visa lottery program. However, even though the President has attempted to negotiate in good faith, an agreement has not yet been reached.
As the impending government shutdown drew nearer, Congressional Democrats began to dig in, claiming they would not vote to continue funding the government without receiving protection for DACA recipients. This steps outside of the realm of bipartisan negotiation, and directly into hostage negotiation. The government is supposed to work for the American people.
A faction within the government deciding to shut down the government over a non-citizen issue is preposterous. Especially since the issue they are in favor of is unconstitutional, and will most likely continue to attract more individuals to attempt to enter the country illegally, in hopes that they too will enjoy Democrat Party-led protection.
What Senator Schumer and his fellow Democrats are doing is actively working against the best interest of U.S. citizens. We’ll see how long it takes for them to wake up and realize they have abandoned the very people they were elected to represent.
Is Senator Schumer and the Democrat Party right in placing the needs of illegals over the needs of Americans?
