A Tennessee man being arrested for selling farts in jars without a vending license is fake news. There is no truth to a report that the man was arrested for having sold without a license farts in jars. Rather, the news originated with a satirical news website. 8shit.net published the article reporting that the Tennessee man had been arrested for selling farts in jars without a vending license.
Tennessee, USA.– A man was arrested for selling his own farts in jars, without even having a vending license. The man was caught by the authorities, which asked him if he had permission, and the man couldn’t answer.
“He was selling farts from different foods, and with different ages. With around 150 jars, he was selling farts as old as one week”, said the police man Gary Cockburn.
Every jar had around 30% fart and 70% air, although he didn’t clarify that to his buyers.
“The man didn’t have permission to sell those farts, so we seized them”, Cockburn stated.

State of Tennessee [TCA Sections 67-4-701, et seq] requires vendors to have either a annual license(s) issued by a city and/or county government in the State of Tennessee which allows vendor to sell anywhere in the state temporarily ($20 annual license fee), or a transient vendor’s license issued by City of Knoxville ($55 license fee for 14 days).
Anyone conducting sales or offering goods for sale, except tax-exempt organizations that did not purchase goods for sale, must meet the above requirements. A copy of the business license or transient vendor’s license and pedestrian vendor’s permit must be with the seller during the event. A copy of tax-exempt status must be at the site of sales.
The following actions will be taken with violators: 1. Warning of noncompliance and instructions to purchase necessary licensing or cease sales and leave the area; 2. Citation to City Court if license(s) are not purchased. Each unheeded warning is a separate offense and will result in separate citations or attachment and confiscation of goods offered for sale.
